About
Mike Bull was trained in the apprentice system (City and Guilds of London) in Southampton, England where he was born. He ran the Small Craft Wooden Boat building Shop at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City from the early 1980’s to 1992, where he built and restored all types of traditional local craft while managing a large cadre of volunteers. In his summers, he was a guest instructor at the Thousand Island Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York teaching 9 day workshops building the Chamberlain Dory Skiff. In 1993, he designed and developed Boatbuilding classes at the Austin Community College tailoring his skills to meet the interests of Central Texas boaters. Mike teaches boat building using a variety of modern and traditional techniques such as lapstrake and carvel construction, stitch and glue, cold molding and strip planking. In the future, Mike plans to introduce classes to build various small craft, for instance sailboats and small runabouts as well as paddle and oar making. He also builds custom wooden boats for sale.
Mike lives in Central Austin with his wife Ali and their daughter, Michaela.
